I recently came across a ‘doomsday’ list (actually an infographic) from BBC which listed a host of apocalyptic threats – some realistic and others not so much (IMO), while others were even humorous. So, while in the mood of listing doomsday threats, I handpicked several of the apocalyptic scenarios (and added a few of my own) and listed them here.

Pesticides and varroa mite kill off honeybees. Crops aren’t pollinated and food supplies run out.

NUCLEAR ARMAGEDDON
Nuclear war breaks out. Dust released into atmosphere blocks out sunlight, causing a nuclear winter.

NUCLEAR ARMAGEDDON
A massive solar flare and coronal mass ejection wipes out Earth’s power grid. The subsequent failure of the planet’s 400+ nuclear plants wipe out humankind.

BIO-TERRORISM
A deadly microbe strain is developed as a biological weapon, causing a global pandemic.

NATURAL PANDEMIC
A deadly microbe strain causes a global pandemic.

OVERPOPULATION
Human population growth outstrips Earth’s capacity to produce food.

NANO-WEAPONS
Atomically precise manufacturing leads to the production of new, super-lethal weapons.

ICE AGE
Low solar activity cools the earth leading to a new glacial ice age.

A FLAWED SUPER ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
A malign or badly-programmed technological super-intelligence annihilates humankind.

SUPER VOLCANO
A massive volcanic eruption releases ash clouds that block out sunlight and cool the globe.

ASTEROID IMPACT
A large asteroid or comet smashes into Earth.

ALIEN INVASION
We encounter hostile aliens who conquer us with their superior technology.

MATRIX SCENARIO
Our universe turns out to be a simulation and it gets shut down.
